Swimming / Hydro Therapy

Swimming is meant to be the best exercise because the water supports you and it's lots of fun so it doesn’t always feel like exercise!

Swimming

Lots of public swimming pools have ladies only sessions – give them a ring and find out if they meet your needs. You can find them in the phone book under “Swimming Pools” or “Leisure Centres”.

Public swimming pools are usually accessible for wheelchair users who can transfer. They have shower chairs and often a hoist to lower you into the water. If your local swimming pool does not it is breaking the law!

Hydro Pools are accessible for everyone and you can ensure your session meets your religious and cultural needs by asking for a slot that is women only. You can find out about hydro pools by asking your physiotherapist, if you have one. If not, your social worker should be able to put you in touch with a pool.

Often schools and colleges allow you to use their pools in the holidays and disabled living centres have details if they do not have their own.
