Mahayana is New Year

New Year for Mahayana Buddhists celebrated on the first full moon day in January.

On Mahayana people will go the the local temple or monastery and offer food to the monks.

People take the Five Precepts and listen to a Dharma talk.

In the afternoon, Buddhists give free food to the poor.

In the evening people may join in a ceremony of circumambulation (movement round a holy object) a stupa (which is a mound-like structure containing Buddhist relics, once thought to be places of Buddhist workshop) three time as a sign of respect to the Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha.
