In the late 1990's and ear;y 2000 I worked as a Health Care Assistant in a local hospital. I was encouraged to take on NVQ 2 and to my surprise enjoyed studying again, so I quickly followed on with NVQ 3. During the time I was studying for NVQ 3 my lecturer hinted that I would be capable of taking on nurse training. I took this on board and while working in outpatietns one of my colleagues noticed that there were two vacancies for sponsorship for nurse training at York University. Yes, we went for it. At the end of the first year, following a learning disability placement I decided to transfer to learning disability nuursing and during my training was attached to the local Community team and after qualifying was offered some bank work and here I am now as the Community Nurse for transitions.
