Questions, Questions, Questions

What’s a good question to ask when you are looking round a college??

Here are some ideas:

  1. Is the building easy to get around? – go and have a look with someone else. Try using the toilets and check out the student bar if they have one – the little things are important! If it’s not right tell someone!

  2. How are you going to get there? Look at the transport section of this website for ideas.

  3. Who is going to pay for it? Look at the money section of this website for help. Check with SKILL www.skill.org.uk it’s what they are there for!

  4. Can I do the course full-time (every day) or part-time (half a week) if I want to? You may want to work or just chill out during your week too, but remember this will make your course longer.

  5. Help – do you need extra help when you are at college get hold of your tutor or the student services. They can give you help with everything from helping find someone to take notes for you if you need it to making sure your hand outs are on different coloured paper.

  6. Will they give me a learning agreement – this is a promise on a piece of paper saying what they will do to help you and what you will have to do too.

  7. Can I get the right kind of food (halal, diabetic, vegatarian, gluten free) from the canteen and does it look tasty!?

  8. What have other students done after the course? Can you talk to anyone who is doing the course now and ask them what is easy and what is hard? What do other people think about the college?

  9. Homework – yuk – it never goes away! Find out how much there will be and then you will need somewhere quiet and comfortable to study. Make sure you can use the library at college and somewhere at home too.

Of course there will always be something you forget to ask and don’t worry about phoning up when you get home or asking someone else to do it for you.
