Respite

Short Break1

You may want to carry on living with your family but be able to go to another house for a bit of a break sometimes. This is called respite. There are two main ways of having respite.

Short Breaks. This is usually a house that you go to for a weekend or a few days of a month. There will be other people there and staff to help you. The staff try and match you up with people who have the same interests as you. It can be a great way to make new friends and do fun activities.

Adult Placement. This is where you can go and stay with another family for a weekend or a few days each month.

The local authority will pay for you to have about 42 nights a year at respite and you pay a small fee between £10 and £15 per night.

Ask your social worker or social services for more information.
