Gay, lesbian or bisexual

Many young people are attracted to the same sex for a while when they are a teenager. Some continue to feel attracted to same sex people as they get older and have gay or lesbian relationships. Others are attracted to both the opposite sex and same sex people and have bisexual relationships. You may just know that you're gay, lesbian or bisexual.

If you're having confusion around your sexual identity, or want more information, there are people you can talk with to help you work it out. If you know that you are gay or lesbian you can get help to find out more about connecting with gay and lesbian communities.

You have the right to be gay, lesbian or bisexual

If you are gay, lesbian or bisexual, you are equally entitled to get support to meet friends and future partners the same as ‘straight’ people who want to go out with the opposite sex.

Some people do not think that being Gay, lesbian or bisexual is OK. Your family and friends may have strong opinions about being gay.

But if you think or know you are gay it can be hurtful to hear people say that they think it is wrong.

There are many people who think that being is completely fine.

It is important for the people who work with you to understand and accept that the sexuality of people with learning disabilities is not a matter for them to decide or judge. Their attitudes should aim at supporting you in your choice.
