There are four mitzvot (some of the commandments given in the Torah) which must be done.
There is the reading of Megillat Esther (Book of Esther), there is festivity and rejoicing, there is Shalach Manot (the sending of gifts) and gifts are also given to the poor (Matanot L'Evyonim)
