What is Pongal?
The word ‘Pongal’ means ‘boil’ and make people think of cooking pots overflowing.
It's also the name of the special sweet dish cooked at Pongal.
Pongal happens in the first four days of the ‘Thai’ month that starts on January 14 every year.
Pongal is a big festival that is mostly in the south of India.
It marks the harvest of crops and a people say a special thank-you to God, the sun, the earth and the cattle for all the things that the earth gives us.
